Carlsbad, CA – February 26, 2013 — The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) has established a Professional Services Agreement with Alternative Energy Systems Consulting, Inc. (AESC) to provide its 419 acre campus with energy engineering services. As part of this agreement AESC completed, in January of 2013, a comprehensive energy and water audit of Haines Hall, which primarily accommodates lecture halls, classrooms, and faculty offices. The purpose of the audit was to characterize the building’s energy usage, evaluate energy and water consuming systems, and identify ECMs to increase occupant comfort and improve building efficiency. Sixteen recommendations were identified under the categories of retro-commissioning, water conservation, low cost and capital energy conservation measures. The measures represent an 8% energy savings (kWh), 13% steam savings (lb of steam), 20% chilled water savings (Ton-Hr), 75% domestic cold water savings (HCF), and will reduce the facility’s carbon emissions by 253,000 pounds per year.
