The AESC team evaluated three categories of cost savings opportunities including operational measures, energy efficiency, and energy supply measures. The team evaluated the cost to treat for trihalomethanes (THM), a harmful pollutant, and proposed a process control strategy that reduces THM formation through optimized chemical dosing and mixing coupled with real-time THM measurement. The measures were successful in reducing THM formation and reducing energy and chemical costs. Additionally, the AESC team evaluated the integration of solar PV generation that has a 5-year simple payback.
